How do they work?
Casement windows feature side openings, top openings and fixed panels - there's huge array of options With a wide variety of glazing options too, Falcon Windows can create beautiful windows which will simply transform your home.
If you're on a budget, then fixed panel casement windows really come into their own as they let extra light into a room without the need for locks and handles, so they can save money on unit purchase costs. Fixed panels can accommodate 'dummy' sashes though, which means that all the glass will look equal in terms of sightlines. It's often a preferred feature, although it is one which might attract a slight premium, working out at a similar price to an actual opening window without the handles.
On opening casement windows from Falcon Windows, the hinges are located on the side and tops of the frame, so the windows open outwards. Side opening windows come in a variety of openings- usually with a standard hinge where the window opens properly 45 degrees. Restrictor hinges are used for children's bedroom windows, however spring clip child restrictor catches are advisable as these are much easier to operate.
Easy clean hinges and egress fire escape hinges which double up as an easy clean hinge too are the hinges that we generally install, especially on upstairs casement windows.
When opened fully, angled windows catch the air and draw it inside, improving a room's ventilation. PVC-u casement windows from Falcon Windows Ipswich can be easy to clean and virtually maintenance-free, but it's advisable to clean and oil the hinges and locking mechanisms regularly, about four times a year with a three-in-one oil as this helps to keep the windows in good working order. Lack of maintenance on the hinges is perhaps the most regular reason why windows fail after installation, but Falcon can help there too. Take a look at our special 'fix-it' division, Falcon Maintenance.
